This breath-taking and extremely diverse mountain hike in the heart of the Wetterstein Mountains is considered to be one of the most beautiful mountain tours in the Bavarian Alps. The tour begins at the Grainau Kurhaus and leads through the unbelievable and primeval Höllentalklamm gorge before ultimately reaching the hut called Höllentalangerhütte (1,387 m). From here, hikers work their way up a steep, rocky path until they reach the highest point of the hike at the Hupfleitenjoch (1,750 m). From this vantage point, hikers can take in a unique panorama that includes the Waxenstein Mountain, the Zugspitze including the Höllentalferner glacier and the well-known Jubiläumsgrat ridge. The final section of the hike is formed by the short descent leading to Kreuzeck, where hikers can enjoy food and drink at the Kreuzeckhaus (1,651 m). From Kreuzeck, the best option to return home leads down to the Kreuzeckbahn cable cars. Hikers can ride them down into the valley and then hop onto a train run by the Bayerische Zugspitzbahn to return to the starting point.
